Learning on Location: My Trip to Eastern Uganda

MUTUWA ALBRIGHT JEREMIAH

St catherine Junior school prepared a study trip for upper primary. The administrators advised parents to bring their children to school on Monday. They were requested to come with note books, soap, toothbrush and others. The first place we visited was Kabimba rice irrigation scheme. our tour guide showed us how rice is irrigated. We asked questions after we went to the bus and had breakfast.
The second place we visited Sipi Falls. The source of sipi falls is Mt Elgon. We hiked up to see sipi falls. One boy in our class known as Calab fell down three times while he was trying to hike.
Semei Kakunguru Memorial Site was our third place of visit. It wasn’t good for me because of graves. Kakunguru is known as the first president of Busoga, founder of the Ugandan Jews (Abayuduya)
We went to Nyero Rock Paintings. We saw a lot of cave pictures like sun painting means the ‘The God of the sun and Moon”. A boat was another paitnting which means they were fishermen.
The fifth place was Soroti fruit factory. This is where juice out of mangoes, oranges etc is made. After making the juice, they sometimes send it to South Sudan. I was so excited to be part of the trip.

KAWUMA LOY SUSAN

It was in term two, 2024 when our section head decided to us for an educational tour to Eastern parts of Uganda. I was so happy to hear that we’re going out for three days. Our teachers started communicating to our parents so that they could pay for the trip. Each child was supposed to pay three hundred thousand shillings.
On second visitation day, most parents paid for their children but mine did not pay. He promised to pay the next Monday. I thank God that he fulfilled his promise. After all that, our teacher told us to bring our things in class for packing and labeling. On that day, day scholars were requested to remain home and prepare for the trip.
On Monday late evening, my father brought for me a jean, white t-shirt and a jumper. I was so happy when I saw my new clothes. Early in the morning, upper section members woke up early at 4: oo am. We bathed, brushed and put on our school uniforms and jumpers. We made a line to the dining where we had the morning breakfast. Our names were read from there to confirm if we were all there.
We expected to leave school at 5: oopm but unfortunately the buses came late. We entered the bus at 8:05 am and sat six. The tour guide was kind and trustworthy. Our driver was uncle Joseph whereas the tour guide was Carol.
On the first day, we went to Lugazi Sugar factory where we learnt how sugar is made. We went ahead to Kibimba Rice Irrigation Scheme almost near Mbale. We bought chicken, meat and soda but the teachers refused us to buy chapati and liver.
We ate lunch from Mbale. The food was so delicious and this include; rice, matooke, Irish, meat, chicken, cabbage and watermelon. We took photos after eating lunch at 7:00 pm and crossed the boarders of Kenya.
In the evening, we went to the motel where we slept after having super at Uganda Christian University.
I enjoyed a lot. Thank you for Organising the trip.

NAKASINDE DALIAH

Last week on Sunday, we had our second VD. It was when most of us organized ourselves for the tour that was on the coming Tuesday. People were so happy to see their parents and the clothes they had brought. On that night, we slept early but some people slept late. On Monday we wore our casuals and lower section wore school uniform. The teachers told us what to bring and what is not allowed. The teachers told us to go to dormitry and get our luggage for the trip. Tr. Lodena checked me. I had a lot of things in my bag. She told us that they need a jean, a jumper, and a shirt etc. She helped us to label our bags. Then she told us that we have to put on full school uniform.  
On Tuesday, we woke up at 4 o’clock, we bathed we wore our school uniform and jumpers. We went to the dining for morning tea then the teachers read our names and counted us.
We expected to leave school at 5 o’clock but the buses arrived late at 3 minutes past eight o’clock in the morning and we left school at 5 minutes past 8 o’ clock. I disliked the tour guide who arranged us in the bus because she made us sit six people per line of five chairs. The bus had a T.V. Our driver was called uncle Joseph while our tour guide was called auntie Carol.
As we moved to Jinja we went to Lugazi sugar factory and we saw how sugar is made. After we went for breakfast at 45 minutes past 12 o’clock then we went to Kibimba irrigation scheme and we saw Kibimba man-made lake, we took some photos. We passed through Mabira Forest and bought chicken, meat and soda but they refused us to buy chapati and liver.
Then we stopped somewhere for lunch we ate rice, meat, chicken, soda, water, matooke and Irish with some fruits.

OKURUT JOSHUA

My name is Okurut Joshua. I am in primary five Dove. I was so excited when the class teacher told me about the tour to Eastern Uganda that was going to be on 23rd July 2024.  I requested my father to pay for me.
We organized our clothes and they brought me to school on Monday evening. It was raining but I came by a motorcycle, and it was so cold. I slept at school with my friends. It was fun.
We woke up early, bathed and set off at 8:00 am.

MUNENE JASON SHINE

Before the trip, we must pack our things well. In order to go for the trip, one has to pay sh.35000, We packed our things and checking was done by our teachers. Day schoolers who had paid for the tour came and had a night in the dormitory.
On the first day, the buses were late.  Finally, they came and we boarded them. I was in bus four. The guide was rude because she refused to give some water.
I liked the places we visited ie SOUL sugar factory, Kibimba Irrigation Scheme, Sipi falls Teju juice factory and Nyoro rock painting. We slept in good motels Bills motels, Madrina Motel and Mafota motel.
It was fun adventure for me.

GUM HANNAH DARICE

Last week we had a study tour in Eastern Uganda. Our teachers checked our things and labeled them.
On Tuesday, 23rd July, 2024, we went for our tour at 8:10 am. Joseph our driver started the journey to Eastern Uganda. We sang songs in the bus while travelling. When we reached Mabira Forest, we bought roasted chicken and soda. Then we went ahead to Lugazi sugar factory.
We visited Kibimba rice irrigation scheme, sipi falls and Semei Kakunguru where we swathe great grand daughter called Racheal Kakunguru who guided us around who taught us.
In Soroti fruit factory, we saw machines that are used to make juice. We also visited Nyero rock paintings. After visiting all the places, I had to shop bungles, glasses and earrings.

MUSINGUZI CARSON.

It was a Tuesday morning, when we went for the tour in Eastern Uganda. We boarded our buses and travelled safely with our teachers.
When we reached, Lugazi Sugar Factory which started in 1924. SCOUL in full is Sugar Co-operation Uganda Limited. Its products are; sugar, sanitizer, industrial alcohol and metabatic spirit etc.
At Kibimba irrigation scheme, there is Kibimba man-made lake. Girls slept in Bills girls and boys were taken to Madrina, Botswana and Mafuta motels.
The next day, we went to General Semei Lwakirenzi Kakunguru Memorial site. He was a victorious army general muganda. He had a great daughter called Racheal Kakunguru.
Lastly, we went to Soroti Fruit Factory, Teju juice and Nyero Rock Paintings. It is a tourist site which started in 1973.
My name is Amanya Farithu Mugabi. I am in primary five Dove.
Last week, we went for a trip in Eastern Uganda. We visited many places e.g. Nyero rock paintings, Soroti Fruit Factory, Semei Kakunguru Memorial Site etc. At Nyero rock paintings, we saw the pictures drawn by early man.
We had fun in the motels and in all the places we visited.

WANDERA ELIJAH

We had a study tour last week. It was for only upper section. We paid three hundred fifty thousand shillings. We prepared and our parents bought for us the requirements.
The next day at 8:00am, we entered the buses with our luggage. We travelled to SCOUL (Sugar Co-operation of Uganda limited). We learnt how sugar is made.
We ate well in all three days we were out of school. We met the orphans and served them some food. I was so happy when I entered in Kenya for a short time.

DANIEL MORGAN

My name is Daniel Morgan. I am in primary five Crane. We go for trip every year in second term at St. Catherine Junior School. I was so excited when the five buses reached school.
We entered the buses and went to the following places. These were; Nyero rock paintings, Soroti Fruit Factory, Semei Kakunguru Memorial Site and the Sipi Falls. I bought a stone from there.
We ate delicious meals like chicken, rice, matooke, meat, fruits and others. We slept three in good motels.

BABIRYE MELANIE

My name is Babirye Melanie Camilla. I am in Primary Five Dove. The tour took place on 23rd July, 2024. When I heard about it, I felt so excited. I had to tell my parents about it. I had to work hard in mid-term exams so that my parents could pay for me. My parents told me that if I get good grade, thy will pay for me. Fortunately, I got 10 aggregates.
During the conference day, my parents said ‘’WOW! Good job’’ Then Tr. Lodena told my father about the trip and he said that he will pay for me.
I followed up what my daddy told me and on Wednesday after the conference, I went to the office and I found that he has paid.
Monday reached so we had to pack. Tr. Lodena checked our things. On Tuesday morning after morning tea, we set off. We started from Mabira Forest to Jinja City then we saw the bridge then to Malaba border. We had lunch gat Mbale city.
The following day, we went to two places and also the third day. We came back to school happily.

NAKATO MELLON

Last week, we were preparing for the tour. We were so excited and our teachers checked and labelled our things.
Teacher Lodena led us in a prayer on Tuesday morning and moved to the buses. The lady who was organizing us was so rude but after some time, she went out of our bus. We then started our journey to SCOUL where sugar is made.
We then went to Mabira Forest but we just by-passed it to Kibimba rice scheme. We asked questions about the place. We headed to parked at Malaba police station and crossed a big wall to Kenyan.
After that, we went to Uganda Christian University in Mbale where we had our lunch. The next day, we visited the sipi falls and Semei Kakunguru. Lastly, we went to Teju (Teso juice factory) and Nyero painting then we came back.

AKOT MARIA CATHERINE

We visited Eastern parts of Uganda last week. I started asking our parents to pay for me. My parents paid for me full and enough money for shopping.
We had a prayer on Monday. After thirty minutes, Karen called me that they are calling in the office. My mum had brought for me the tour luggage.
On Tuesday morning, we set off to our journey where we visited many places. We ate delicious meals, saw different things like paintings and sipi falls.
My name is Ndagire Lavinia. I am in primary five crane. We always have study tours in second term every year. This time we went to Eastern Uganda for three days.
On Monday was the day of packing our things. I had a jean, white-shirt, sportswear, black shoes, uniform and sports shoes. On Tuesday 23rd July, we started our journey.
We went to Nyero painting, Teju juice factory, sipi falls, Malaba boarder and Semei Kakunguru Memorial Site. The worst thing that I fell down in mud at sipi falls.

MY BEST TRIP TO EASTERN UGANDA.

My name is Nimaro Izabella. I am in P.5 C. This where it all started. It was a Sunday morning on 21st July, 2024 when my father paid for me tour money. I started preparing for the journey.
The day came and we started travelling by buses. We were all happy to have fun. We went to different places like Teju juice factory, Sipi falls, Semei Kakungulu Memorial Site and others.
